As I sit at my writing desk I see a plaque in the living area that captures my attention. Now, since I have been diagnosed with ADHD, it’s not difficult for something even as small as an 8″ x 11″ plaque to get me distracted. But today, this wooden plaque with a black background and black script letters on burlap, seems to be mocking me! It says ‘Gather’. Gather, really? Mother’s Day is Sunday. In the photo above you see my Mom, me, my one beautiful daughter-in-law (I have another one just as beautiful, not here for the photo), and my granddaughter. Four generations of women celebrating Mother’s Day, in a photo from years gone by. I’m thinking of this Sunday. My children are hesitant about gathering because I have a compromised immune system. My Mom is hesitating also. She will be hitting the ’85 button’ next month.
So, in my sadness I turn to the Lord. “Lord, I ask you, when you gave Mom’s and their children such a beautiful day to gather and just appreciate each other since 1912, why is this year not going to be a gathering year?”
As always, the Lord does give me an answer. Not the one I wanted. Not this quickly;
Ecclesiastes 3:1 1There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.
I sigh….yes, there is. I guess this is just the way it is for this year! I was also reminded of something a preacher said one time. I refer to this often. It cuts out my complaining quite a bit!
Where YOU are, God has placed YOU.
What YOU have, God has given YOU.
What YOU are to do, God will show YOU.
ALL YOU need, God will provide for YOU.
I am encouraged by those words. If my God is giving, showing, providing and placing me, I have nothing to be disappointed about. When the time is right for me (us), He will provide everything we need to be whole!
So I ask you this, if you are a mom, you have already received the best gift, a child to share your love and life with, right? So, if we have to wait another week-or two before we can tousle their hair, squeeze their cheeks, give a hug or kiss their cheeks and chase them around the back yard, well, they well be worth the wait! In the meantime, we Skype, we zoom, we Instagram, oh, and we can call on the phone too! Enjoy Your Mother’s Day!
