A Blood Red Sun

Donna here! It’s Friend Friday! Again I have my pen pal, Katie sharing some of her thoughts from her prison cell in western PA. Please tell me your thoughts in the reply section below the blog posts.

A Blood Red Sun

by Katie Woolsey

At times it’s suffocating

Hot hazy memories simmering

under a blood red sun.

Summers gone and passed, with it the ‘me’ of yesterday.

Memories tear my heart in two, pieces of me burnt into ash in the world I’d burned alive in.

Other pieces floating adrift, looking down on the world I long to rejoin.

Every so often the pieces of ‘me’ come to full circle entangling amongst the shell of who I am now.

Burning with yearning for anywhere but here.

Anywhere under the blood red sun.

“The Teacher”

When you taught me everything I know I bet you didn’t think it’d get this bad.

Do you thank your lucky stars for dodging the bullet; the fact that it’s me and not you, are you glad?

Often when I am alone I think of things, some thoughts are of you.

I wonder one day who is going to take me home?

When you think of me do you ever wonder this too?

I have always made my own bed, but I let you show me how to lie.

Now whenever I cross your mind do you blink and look away, does it ever stir something inside?

Is in nice wherever you are?

I bet your view is better than the one I have here.

I wonder if you are out there making it, while I struggle through each year.

Katie’s reason for this writing this;

“I was with someone for three years. He taught me everything I know about drugs. Everything! I stood by him through 2 of his jail bids. Once this happened to me (prison) I never heard from him again. I hate, HATE that he’s in my dreams. I don’t allow myself to think about him, but I feel like he haunts me in my sleep. I wrote this about a month ago after one of the many dreams.”
