Joshua 14:12 NIV –
Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
I kept hearing this funny noise in my basement area! My two older grandchildren were playing down there, very noisily I might add, but I could not imagine what they were playing that would make that noise. Of course, I went down to investigate. It was laser tag and the laser gun was making the noise! They were having fun, running, diving behind furniture, laughing when they got hit, and generally having a fun time. Not exactly what our 12 spies experienced as they entered the land that had been promised to them, and stolen from them by giants.
Twelve men were assigned to go into Kiriaath-Arba, the highest city in Israel, and scope out the place to see if it was conquerable. It had been taken over by giants who had defiled this land that God set apart for His glory. In the four centuries between Abraham and Joshua satan had taken every opportunity he could to mock God by defiling this land and making it a stronghold of the giants.
By the time these 12 men were instructed to go in to this ‘Promised Land’ and check it out, more giants were in the land. This land was a holy place. It represented friendship and covenant with God. But, this land was taken over by these giants! It was a place of terror and fear for the 12 spies. The giants were too big, too strong too mean-for ten of them. Yet two…yes two saw a different ending to the story. Joshua and Caleb looked at the land and saw how those ungodly giants had defiled and desecrated this land that had been promised to them. Land that was already the burial place for Abraham the patriarch. They became angry, with a righteous indignation. They returned and told Moses, ‘we can take them on! Give us these fortified cities and we will take down these evil giants.’
Because of the Israelite’s fear and unbelief, Joshua waited 45 more years before they went in and conquered the land. Then, they did conquer the land! With God’s help, good triumphed over evil and the land was renamed Hebron and later became David’s first capitol as well as a refuge and a picture of Christ, our Savior and our refuge.
Today, it goes without saying that things in the nation are out of control. We, the church in America, are confused, discouraged and accusing each other of betrayal. American society is screaming for someone with an answer to come on the scene and fix it! We. like Israel, have been ‘a city on a hill’, being watched around the world to see if we would fall. But, we also have warriors that are willing to ‘take down the giants’ that are putting a wedge in our way of life. This nation remember, was built on the promises of God, the fear of God and the commands of God. Our United States is facing ‘giants of the swamp’ right now, but we know the end of the story. No matter how hard satan tries, he will ultimately fail. USA-1 satan-0
Everything God does on earth is because there has been an army of prayer warriors down on their knees praying for this nation. This is NOT the time to take a break from praying for our nation. Now more than ever we need to hole up the arms of those in the fight! Let’s take a look back at Lazarus. When he was sick, his sisters sent for Jesus telling Jesus to come and pray to make him well. We did that. All through this election cycle prayer was going up 24/7 for a Trump win. Still it did not happen, neither did Lazarus get well. Jesus said his sickness would not end in death, but it did. It seemed all hope was lost for Lazarus, and now for our nation. But God!
But God ha another plan. Jesus waited until Lazarus had been dead four days. He waited until there was a crowd that came to console Mary and Martha. Then it was His time to perform a miracle so all would know, only God could have raised Lazarus from a tomb he had been lying in-dead-for four days!
I believe we are thinking that our beloved USA is on the way to becoming a Lazarus. With this administration already overturning what Trump signed in after careful thought over the course of four years, 46 has ‘unsigned’ in 6 days! What is his hurry? Does he know something? Doubt it. But God does!
I do not believe God will allow the prayer of the intercessors to go unheard nor acted upon. Remember His promise? “If MY people called by MY name humble themselves and pray, then I will hear from Heaven and will heal their land” II Chronicles 7:14
Hold on, don’t let go, and pray-pray-pray until we see what God is going to do. Let’s ALL be giant slayers! I am one, can we count you in? Please let me know. God needs an army of Joshua and Caleb warriors to usher in that ‘Third Great Awakening.” I believe our job here will be done, then we can go Home!
