Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
“Mom, I just made my bed yesterday!” was the cry from my son as he wanted to run outside on his second day of Easter vacation! I know five glorious days of no teachers, and beautiful spring days was just a little to tempting for him. Yet, some things must be tackled EVERY DAY!
After I supervised the bed making, I gave him a little swat, and smiled “go run and play!”
I began thinking about all the things that we must do EVERY DAY! From our rising, to our return to our beds, we have routines and expectations. It appears that for most of us, EVERY DAY we make the bed, brush our teeth and hair, wash up, or shower, get dressed and have breakfast. EVERY DAY we make decisions about what the rest of the day will be, or it may be mapped out for us and we just need to do it. EVERY DAY we need to eat, we need to breathe and we need to move. All those activities are to sustain our physical bodies. EVERY DAY we need to think, socialize, learn, read and ask questions. Those activities are for our mental and emotional well-being. Still we also have a third part of our existence-the spiritual part! What do we do for that part EVERY DAY? We seem to be leaky and forgetful people. We are easily distracted by a beautiful day, a phone call or text, or even the dishwasher buzz. So how do we get the things done that we must do EVERY DAY for our physical and mental parts of our being? We do them so much that they become almost unbreakable habits.
As a result, we stay healthy, clean, presentable to the rest of the people in the world that pretty much did the same thing that morning! Unfortunately, when we go out into that world we are often accosted by people who don’t care about us. Bosses may be nasty or demanding to us, salespeople who aren’t very helpful, and we have to be able to have the ‘tools’ in our ‘toolbox’ to respond in a Christlike manner-not spewing the same vitriol. Remember, if they have been hurt or abused, they want to hurt you. We need to accumulate those ‘tools’ over time so they are readily available to us when we need them.
Here is how I build up my ‘tool box’ EVERY DAY strengthening my spiritual side. I spend 15 minutes, if I’m short on time and just want a ‘shower’, or 45 minutes , if I wand a luxurious soaking bath, with my Bible study and prayer EVERY DAY! Just think about spending time with the creator of the Universe! We have that luxury EVERY DAY…ALL DAY!
If you are new to Bible reading, or if you enjoy reading a devotional that connects the scripture to real life, may I suggest; ‘daily gems to spark your spirit’? This is the book I wrote and…it is released TODAY so if you pre-ordered, it will be at your door soon. If you didn’t, well TODAY IS THE DAY! Both Amazon and Barns and Noble carry it.
I apologize it that seemed a little self serving. I just believe you will enjoy this book and I trust it will reinforce your EVERY DAY habit of reading the Word and spending time with Jesus!
I look forward to hearing from you!
