Daydream Believer

John 1:48

How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

Ohhhhh isn’t it just dreamy when we can just stare off into the vast blue sky and dream? Unless, of course you are in a German class and your teacher was giving you important information-in German! Ask me how I know! That was just one of the times I found myself out in a field under a tree dreaming of my future. By the way, there was no German anything in my daydream! Maybe you are dreaming of a vacation, maybe a new car, or a future business! Whatever it is, it usually seems more interesting than the reality right in front of you.

That is where we find Nathanial before he is chosen by Philip to become one of the disciples of Jesus. Can you just imaging that? A daydreamer. Not someone who already had a business and showed off his work potential, (though Jesus did call them too). But, this guy was staring off into space, rubbing his beard and thinking of, well, who knows. Maybe nothing at all!

He had no clue that he was being watched from afar by the man who already knew everything about him, and, wanted that persona to be counted in among the ranks of Jesus followers. Guess what? Jesus is ‘daydreaming’ over us! Yes, He watches lovingly as we meander about in our own little world. Can you just picture Him sitting under a tree in Heaven thinking…about us. Dreaming of the day (the one He already knows) when we will be in church raising our hands and voices to Him. Thinking of the time we will go out of our way to help someone with a problem. Can you see Him looking off into the distance, rubbing his beard and smiling, as He watches us ‘do the right thing.’ And even further into the future as He stretches out His arms to us and says; Welcome Home!

Take some time to become a ‘daydream believer’. You will be in good company!
