Masterpiece!

Ephesians 2:10 NIV- For we are God’s handiwork, created – For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

The last day of last month was the 44th Birthday of our oldest son, Aaron. In the photo he is about three months old talking on the phone. He still does! That is his job, and for 8 hours every day he tries to improve the lives of the people who call him for help with their insurance. Maybe a prophetic photo?

I just revisit the day that I went into labor every year on his birthday. My husband and I walked through our back alley and I remember telling him nothing will ever be the same again when we bring our baby home. That was not prophetic, that is what many parents who have gone before us told us! I also told my husband I had changed my mind. I did not want to do this anymore. He reminded me that train already left the station!

My husband preached recently at our church when our Pastor was away. I want to share some of that sermon with you today.

God desires several things for our lives:

  1. A dangerous prayer for us is; ‘God do whatever it takes to make me what you want me to be.’ It is dangerous because a chisel is often God’s favorite tool to chip away the negative parts, and expose the beautiful parts. When Michelangelo was asked how he was able to sculpt such a beautiful work as ‘the David’ from that slab of marble, he replied ‘the David was always under there, I just chipped away the pieces that did not belong to him.’
  2. God has a plan for you! Hebrews 12:1 NIV: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, We are not on this planet by chance. God created us for a purpose. He wants us to run this race for His honor and glory. He wants us to share His love with everyone we meet and bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus.

Getting back to Aaron. He was a perfect Masterpiece that my husband and I grew together! We checked him to see if he had all his parts and if they all worked AFTER we declared him perfect. No matter what he would have been when we first saw him, our hearts melted in love. I believe this is the greatest illustration we will ever know here on earth, of our Heavenly Father’s love for us. We are His Masterpiece. His crowned jewel. His pride and joy. I pray we all live up to His view of us!
