Wear Your Mask!!!

It’s October and Halloween is right around the corner.   We all have been wearing masks for over 12 months!  Wearing a mask is getting very old. The gym I was going to insisted I wear a mask. I changed gyms.

I remember decades ago going to grade school dressed in costume for our yearly Halloween Party.  Those were the days Halloween was simply a time to pretend that you were someone else, parade around the school and then have some fun playing  games and then enjoying cupcakes and kool-aide .

Today it is much different.  Kids now want to dress like demons, zombies and street walkers.  They carry weapons of all kinds and parade around trying to “kill” anyone in their sight.  Do parents want their children to grow up to be like those characters?  We must think before we purchase a costume for our children.

Some of you may remember the song we used to sing:

“Who’s behind the false face, nobody knows but me.

Who’s behind the false face, nobody knows but me.

I won’t tell you, You will have to guess.

If your guess is right I will answer yes.”

Do you hide behind a false face today?  Are you pretending to be someone on the outside that you are not on the inside?

God knows your true self.  You cannot hide from Him.  Yet, He reminds all of us that the bad things we did in the past are no longer visible once we confess them to Him.  God forgave and forgot them completely.

So then the question is “Why do we continue to put on the false face?”

I think the answer may be found in the fourth chapter of Genesis.  After Cain killed his brother Abel, he pretends he knows nothing about it when God confronts him and asks where his brother is.

“The the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is your brother Abel?’

“I don’t know. “Am I my brothers keeper?”

It makes no sense to try to hide behind the false face of something else.  We must confess our sin and ask God for forgiveness; move forward and strive to live a godly life from that point.  Maybe this season our song should be:

                I don’t need a false face, God’s forgiven me.

            I don’t need a false face, God’s forgiven me.

Serving Jesus always makes me blessed!

Come and join me for a life that’s best.

Serving Jesus always makes me blessed!

Remember as you choose your costume this year what is the reflection you want others to see when they open their door. Will you be a reflection of Christ, or will you be a reflection of the one who wants to proclaim you ; GUILTY and sentence you to hell?
