Psalm 37:4 NKJV

A beautiful, warm summer night. A couple of young people, and a couple of (older) grandparents. What more could you want in your day? Pure joy!
Our older grandchildren usually come over once a week for a ‘play date’ with Nana and Pop Pop. Now that our granddaughter has a full-time job, it is more difficult to get her in the evening, but this evening we were blessed!
Walking along the riverbank, skipping stones and chatting about everything from when school will re-start to the crazy rides at the fair and even the politics facing our nation. That chatter keeps us older folks on the ‘cutting edge’ of the world today while giving us the opportunity to find out what we need to be praying about for them and the rest of the younger generation. Example would be the fact that my granddaughter told me there is a plethora of gender pronouns that ‘gender confused’ people want us to use! So much simpler when it was just 2! (Still is in my vocabulary).
These evenings often take us out of our comfort zone and into conversations that we may feel that we need not venture. Still, when we bravely listen our knowledge of the world expands, and our prayer list does as well!
At a recent prayer service my husband gave a word about our futures. He did not give much information about what will happen, he just said the Lord told him; PREPARE!
While that is a very generic word with no specificity, I believe there are some inferences we can take-away from that one word.
First and foremost, always have your heart in the right place. Do not wait to ask forgiveness of the Lord for a wrong you have done. Remember Matthew 6:12? He forgives us as we forgive others!
Next, always be looking up! The Lord’s return will come suddenly, and we want to have our eye on the sky, not on our problem. We don’t know if a few second delay will make a difference in our trajectory. I Corinthians 15:51-52
Always keep an open communication with Holy Spirit. Just as my husband got that word, He will talk to us as well. Advice, warnings, direction and comfort all come from Holy Spirit-when we are tuned in to His frequency.
How do we tune in? Ask for Him to join you in your life. He will not barge in but waits to be invited in. Once you have asked, listen. He is not loud and boisterous but has a small but powerful voice, or maybe an ‘impression’ that will keep coming to you.
Like all skills we want to learn, we must practice. Becoming aware of Holy Spirit in our midst is the first step but making it a daily habit to invite Him to do life with you, and taking the time to quietly listen, is a commitment that will prove to have great dividends. I know we often find out things we need to know before they have been announced because we listened to that voice giving us the download!
Of course, it is always a joy for us when we can listen to any of our grandchildren share their lives with us. How much greater when we can be on that ‘inside track’ listening to Holy Spirit whispering information into our lives! Try it…I think you will like it!
