- Matthew 8:13 1
- 3Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
It was another painful day! I had to go do an interview of an athlete for an article I was writing for a local magazine. That would not be so bad, I could sit and conduct the interview. The bad part, I had to take photos, and the interview was at a ball field! I was somewhat unsteady on my feet. My bones hurt. My face had the typical ‘butterfly rash’ that lupus was known for. I felt defeated. How would I drive to the interview with the pain in my joints? How would I walk across the field for the interview without looking like I was drunk? I was in a lupus flare! These are episodes in which you have the active illness. These are the times that I would like to wear a sign explaining to people that I am not drunk, and I am not contagious. Instead, I use a cane for support, and keep moving. There are also times when the illness lies dormant, only to rear it’s ugly symptoms again when you least expect it! By the way, my lovely daughter in law drove me to the interview and helped me navigate the field.
I had suffered with lupus, the flares and remitting for several years. When my Dr. diagnosed it with blood work, and MRI and and exam by a rheumatologist, he said he thought it was MS, or lupus. Lupus was the better one to have of the two! I did not want either one!
Many times at many prayer services I would wobble up to be prayed for, only to return to my seat still in pain. I did not give up. I read about the persistent woman who waited and prayed for a long time before receiving her healing. Still, it would drift to the back of my mind during times of remittance, than remind me it was still there during times of pain. Seeing a rheumatologist an a regular basis was keeping the pain at bay, but still often noticeable in the rash or my gait.
Several years went by and I had an appointment in Danville at Geisinger Hospital to see if my knees needed to be replaced. The Dr.confirmed what I knew already-knee replacement. My husband boldly asked the Dr. if we could be seen by a rheumatologist while we were there, since we live an hour or so away. I think that it would be a miracle if I was able to be seen by another Dr. without and appointment, but that’s another story! The Dr. said he would try, and after leaving us for a while, he came back with good news. There was a Dr. who could fit us into his schedule.
First there was a blood test. Then a thorough exam of all my joints, many questions and a talk about my history with lupus. The Dr. left to check blood work and my records. After a while, he returned, but seemed puzzled. He said after reviewing all my exams, there was no evidence of lupus! I was baffled, dumbfounded! I could not process this. I knew I was not in a flare of the illness right now, but still there are always symptoms of the illness. I had none.
My husband, turned to me and said; “this is what we have been praying for. You have been healed!” He got it! As is sunk into my spirit, I said ; “Thank You Lord, I have been healed!” This rheumatologist said his good-bye and left. I returned to my usual rheumatologist locally to give him the good news. I had not had a flare in a while and had not seen him recently. He examined me, took blood work and confirmed that there were no more signs or symptoms of lupus. In fact, he said; “this is the hope of every Dr. that our patients will get well!”. Then he asked if he could give me a hug. Of course I said yes. I told him this was the healing I had been praying for. He agreed!
I am still living for over 20 years lupus free! Hallelujah.
Lupus is an auto-immune illness where the immune system attacks it’s own tissue. It can be mild, or very severe. It is often treated with the same drug that helps covid-19 patients-hydroxychloroquine.
‘Miracle-a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency’
Our God is still in the healing business!
