This is a photo of the doors in the Freedom Tower building. Everything there is Godly and inspirational.
We all piled into an SUV, said a prayer for safe travels, and ventured off to Lynchburg Virginia. Robin and Aaron drove, taking turns when we stopped. Ron and I were in the middle, captain seats, pure luxury! Jaron and Evan were in the third row. I looked at my grandsons lanky frame and wondered where he would fold those legs up comfortably. He did, he placed them between our seats! We had his calves and feet between us most of the trip. lol.
The whether was perfect, and all our luggage fit snuggly in the way back, so, we were finally on this long awaited trip. We were off to Liberty University to watch as our first grandchild, and only granddaughter, was awarded her diploma in Interdisciplinary Studies.
We had been planning the trip for a while, as she actually finished her degree on line last December, but had to wait for the ‘big event’. And a big event it was!
Here are some of the staggering stats;
Online graduates 23,762 (my granddaughter was one of them, with honors)
Residential graduates 3,751
Academy (high school) on line graduates 1,200
For the actual graduation ceremony there were graduates getting their high school diplomas, Associates Degree (our granddaughter was one), Bachelors Degree, or their Doctorate Degree.
If you can just imagine for a minute the logistics of parking, moving people, directing people, keeping people safe and in the right place, not to mention the actual ceremonies, for 60,000 people in the stadium! The task was monumental!
It took us about 7 hours to get there with 3-4 stops for meals, and photo opportunities of the Blue Ridge Mountains! Miraculously, my son snagged a Microtel within 5 minutes of the campus. He started looking months ago, and at one point there were no hotels nearby and even the ones that had openings were 1 hour away, and $500.00 a night! An easy buck was to be made as families don’t miss this event! He was diligent in checking weekly and someone must have backed out, because he was able to get 2 rooms for less than half of the cost I mentioned.
We stopped on the campus to register our granddaughter and…get some photos! Our son and his family had been there before, so they had some of their favorite spots they wanted us to see. One was the Freedom Tower. At the look-out at the top of the elevator, the entire campus, and beyond, can be seen. Magnificent!
Once we settled into our rooms and planned out our course for the next day, we very happily went to sleep with visions of wonderful activities in our dreams for the next days ahead!
More later.
