Happy Birthday USA!

“No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States.”

George Washington

Psalm 33:12

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

Our grand old country is 246 years old! That is a reason to celebrate! Use fireworks, picnics, parades, concerts and every other thing you remember growing up as you celebrated this wonderful ‘experiment’ we now call USA. Since we did allow the protesters their ‘freedom’, I am all in favor of allowing our National Pride to be shamelessly demonstrated everywhere and by everyone in this great country…with red, white and blue everything, everywhere! Yes, I am a patriot and still believe God is not giving up on our nation. Why? Because there is a ‘remnant’ praying earnestly for revival. I am one, I hope you are too.

The brilliant men who were at the helm of establishing this USA had to lean on a common understanding of law, social order, government and morality. Where did they find that wisdom? It came from what we now call the ‘Judaeo-Christian Ethic.’ This is the system that was found in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. It was already tried, tested and found to be true.

It was not as important that all the founders were Christians and lived as Christians, but it was critical that they lived by the code of ethics, and that they saw the value in these principles for this fledgling society. As it is, most were Christian believers, contrary to what some people express today.

So, what were these principles? I’m glad you asked. There are seven of them.

  1. The dignity of human life.

OT Exodus 20:13 You shall not murder. Respect and protection for the born, and unborn. With the return of abortion to the states, we have a much better chance of saving more lives! Of course, not in PA…yet! Keep praying!

NT Matthew 22:39 You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Our military go to foreign lands to protect our neighbors.

2. The Traditional monogamous Family

Genesis 2:23-24 23The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

The plan of God, nature and common sense is one of each gender providing stability and nurturing for children without ambiguity. It is the only way life will go on. This should also be a matter of prayer as more and more moral codes get trampled by a ‘free for all’ society! There are national consequences to these actions.

3. A National Work Ethic

2 Thessalonians 3:10 10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

Even when the country went through the Great Depression we as people helped each other until times got better. Often families sacrificed their own needs to help others.

4. The Right to a God Centered Education

Ephesians 6:4 4Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the LORD.

The early children’s textbook ‘The New England Primer’ taught the ABC’s by having the children learn scripture verses with each letter of the alphabet. That was reading to believe in. Recently conservatives saw another turn as ‘school choice’ also returns to the states for consideration! There is hope!

5. The Abrahamic Covenant

Genesis 12:1-3 1The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

This was the decision made between Abraham and God that this promise would be kept between them; if Abraham would obey God and His commandments, God would bless Abraham with generations of children that would outnumber the stars in the Heavens. God kept His end.

6. Common Decency

Matthew 22:39 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

This is the belief that this ‘decent’ nation will do the decent and good thing for it’s people when faced with an epic challenge.

7..Our Personal Accountability to God

Hebrews 9:27 27Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

Probably the greatest restraint to evil in this nation is the knowledge that we are accountable to God on judgement day. There will be a penalty for doing wrong, and a blessing for doing what is right.

These 7 principles are still effective today in keeping our nation safe, and free. But, it will only happen when we know them, and heed them.

Abraham Lincoln said, “we have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven.” I pray, and ask you to pray with me that our nation will return to these 7 values and return to “One Nation Under God.”

Please share your ‘Birthday’ prayer for our nation in the ‘reply’ section at the end of this post.
