5The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7So the LORD said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created-and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground-for I regret that I have made them.” 8But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
I think it would be nice if we had a little warning time before we have an emergency. I’m not talking about natural disaster emergencies, we seem to do well with those. We know when a snow storm is coming, or a hurricane, or just a bad rain and wind storm. No, I’m talking about a national spiritual emergency! The kind that lurks around you, tempting, enticing, cajoling and sometimes even offering the ‘sin’ in every newspaper, on tv and in the movies. Suddenly-we as a nation have indulged! We have taken the bate! It’s done, over, kaput! We have become that sinful nation!
Ya know, if we paid closer attention to the world around us we would find…WE HAVE BEEN WARNED! Oh, we chalk a lot of the warnings up to; ‘Mother Nature’, climate change, fracking, or any number of other events. It’s God warning us! Did the people of Sodom realize they only had one more day before that nuclear explosion wiped them off the face of the map? Did the Egyptians realize that the plagues they experienced were from God’s judgemental hand? Well, not till it was too late!
Let me tell you something you may not have thought about before. God still speaks to us through His creation. Ya, that’s right. We learn that God uses nature to get our attention in the first book of the Bible. God was not pleased with the way people were living their lives in Genesis Chapter 6. He told the people he was sorry he made them. That’s so sad! Yet, he found a family that had been righteous and when the flood came God spared Noah and his family so that the earth could be replenished.
He gave warning signs to the people of Noah’s day. It took Noah 120 years to build that boat. I’m sure people were asking about it, making fun of him, maybe some even listened as he explained God was not pleased with them. When it came down to it, only Noah and his family were found righteous and were spared to rebuild the population again.
How about today? Do you think God still makes His will known through events He orchestrates? Of course He does! Are we reading the signs? Heeding the warnings? Evacuating from the sin that so easily entangles us? Maybe some of us are being the ‘watchmen on the wall.’ We try desperately to use every way possible to get the attention of people headed for the cliff so they change their course before it’s too late!
I think it’s almost too late! Funny thing though, our God is a God of many chances. When Abram bargained with God, God listened. Then God inspired this verse that gives us our hope in 2 Chronicles 7:12-14 12the LORD appeared to him (King Solomon, my words) at night and said: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices. 13“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
I believe over the many years of the human race we have been spared by this verse! We are there now. Another plague is affecting the entire world. The remnant of believers recognize that the human race is in peril. They fall to their knees, cry out to God in repentance, and seek His face turning from evil. It is only because God loves us so much that he relents, and hears our prayers, healing our land…again!
I don’t know this for sure, but I think that we are again on that precipice. We have pretty much spit in God’s face as we murder our babies, condone adultery, marry homosexuals, allow liars cheats and thieves to become our government officials. How much more will He tolerate? Will there be enough of a remnant to save us this time?
There was a movement called the Return that came to Washington D.C. three years ago. It was live streamed in many churches, including Servant Church of the Abington’s. The ‘remanent’ of the body of Christ prayed and repented for our nation’s sins. I believe those prayers are held in bowls in Heaven just waiting for the right time they will be poured out on this nation signaling the Return of the Remanent to Redemption in Jesus! It may be our last opportunity!
There is a remanent in the area-specifically Scranton, that has been praying for a revival. I believe God is listening!
