II Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
If you have been following along with Firefly’s daily postings, you know we have been dissecting 2 Chronicles 7:14 a little bit every day. (If you missed any, I would encourage you to look at the previous blog posts from this week.) Oftentimes, it can be quite beneficial to methodically
So, here comes the hard part of this equation God gives us. We need to turn from our wicked ways! We don’t like to do that. We are like spoiled children who want their own way no matter what our parents say!
But how do we know what a ‘wicked way’ is? Well, for starters, let’s look at the Ten Commandments! They have been the ‘benchmark’ in our society since the beginning of our nation. They have been permanently inscribed on our government buildings in many states and Washington D.C. And, they are as pertinent today as they were back when Moses brought them down from the mountain. (The story of Moses and the Ten Commandments is set in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21.) They have not changed with the trends, they have not lost their power, and they still keep our society on an even keel.
Ten Commandments
- You shall have no other gods before Me.
- You shall make no idols.
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
- Keep the Sabbath day holy.
- Honor your father and your mother.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet.
When we break one of these, we have broken them all. So, we may try to justify our bad behavior by saying we have not murdered. Yet, I am sure we have lied. Broke them all! Have you wanted something someone else has? Broke them all. Have you talked back to your parents? Broke them all. You get my point. There is no way, in our natural self that we could keep all ten of the Commandments, all the time. Only Jesus was able to do that. Thank You Jesus you came so we would have forgiveness, and the hope of Heaven.
Right now we are facing some very serious issues in our country that are putting us at risk. We are moving into an election cycle that could be the most difficult and unprecedent we have ever faced. On one side-a man running for president who has very clear mental deficit’s. On the other, a former president who has been indited, a Hindu, as well as others that have not shown much promise-yet. What do we do?
God already gave us His solution. And God’s promise remains: IF people who call themselves believers will cry out to Him, He WILL hear us from His home in Heaven. He WILL forgive our sins, and He WILL heal our land. People, we need a literal healing in our land right now! Let’s make a conscious effort daily to turn from our wicked ways and ask for His forgiveness. There is still hope in our God, and a promise we can count on!
Ask yourself, “Do I still believe in these 10 Commandments or do I believe they have become irrelevant for today?” Remember, God’s Word does not change! We must change to align with His standards. It is the only way.
