Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
How many of us have watched the ‘Miss America’ pageant? It seemed that every girl answered the same way when they get to the interview with the host. WORLD PEACE! Of course, it sounds good, and we can make every effort toward world peace. It’s just not going to happen this side of Heaven. Why? Because the powers of darkness still have a hold in the hearts of people.
This week the Advent message is about peace. Just saying the word brings an aghhhhh to my spirit! I hope (last week’s advent word) you will take today to really think about what peace means, and what it would mean if we had it in our world. The dictionary definition is; ‘freedom from disturbance, quietness and tranquility. A time of no war. It sounds so good, and we even have tranquility from time to time, just not for long, and not across the world. So what does peace really mean?
It will benefit each of us if today we marinate in the Word of God about the word PEACE.
2 Thessalonians 3:16. 16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
Colossians 3:15. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.
- Psalm 29:11. 11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
- Galatians 5:22. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
- John 14:27. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you
Within these five verses you have the ‘ammunition’ when someone or something tries to get you rattled, disturbed or out of focus. Remember, God blesses His people with PEACE, and if God gave you this beautiful gift, don’t squander it or let it sit on your shelf. Absorb it into your life!
Question; Think about times when you have been disturbed and without peace. Would having these verses for ammunition have helped you stay calmer?
