Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Yes, it really is December 20th?! Four more shopping, wrapping, cleaning, baking, buying, sending, cooking, partying, calling photographing…days till Christmas. Whew! I’m exhausted already! In reality, none of that wonderful and fun stuff has to be done for Christmas to come. Christmas is the most beautiful event in human history. There were no photos, no tweets, no messages and even no witnesses. Just an earthly Dad, a very young Mom, and some desert animals. This one event changed the course of history, and our lives.

It was an event that was foretold by the prophet in Isaiah 7:14 14Therefore the LORD himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

It was an event so precious, so solemn, so holy, that Angels came to announce it to the world. Luke 2:11 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the LORD.

It was an event blessed by the prophet Simeon in Luke 2:34 34Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,

It was an event visited by Kings and shepherds alike. Matthew 2:1-2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”

Luke 2:8-20 NIV And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.

Question: What effect does this one monumental event have on me? Credit card bills? Several extra pounds? Or a profound change in the heart? After all, that’s really why He came! Merry CHRISTmas!
