America’s destiny and purpose were sealed with that cross at Cape Henry. All that would follow in our nation’s growth hinged on the single proclamation that this land belonged to Jesus Christ.
In 1607 settlers came to the shores of Virginia and staked a claim! This was not just an escape from high taxes and tyranny, but it was with a deep down conviction that men and women should be free to live out there God given convictions without fear of reprisal. They had been subject to the King’s religion, and were persecuted for theirs. This was not tolerable to them any longer, so a group of brave souls crossed the ocean.
When the settlers made a safe landing, and all were accounted for and safe, Reverend Robert Hunt, one of the travelers prayed and offered the settlers Communion, in gratitude for the safe journey. A wooden cross was erected on April 29, 1607 to remind the settlers of their purpose, and the one who gave them safety for the journey. In reality they became missionaries on American soil.
Now in 2024, that same country, the one that was specifically settled to give glory to God and spread the Good news of the Gospel of Jesus to all, is being persecuted for that very belief system! American’s are not the only ones who have had this struggle. If you recall the struggle that the Jews still have with the Arabs you will realize that the battle is about good verses evil. Satan always wants to encroach on the Lord’s territory. He has been really good at his job deceiving people into believing that ‘self’ is #1! The deceiver says, if we want to do it, we should. If we don’t want to, well, we can rely on our government to support us. We get to decide our gender? Really? Does that make any sense to you? We get to decide if our unborn children live or die? We have elevated ourselves to positions that we have no business to be dabbling in. I am reminded of the Tower of Babel and wonder when God is going to intervene? Our blatant arrogance is having a deleterious effect of our children as they follow in our footsteps and become the “I want it all, and I want it now” generation. As we continue to look at ‘science’ and the government to track our course rather that listening to the God of the Universe, we become more and more like those pagan nations that the Hebrews always had to fight.
So you can see there is a very good reason why we should celebrate this particular day in our American history. This is similar to the day Jacob wrestled with God and had his name changed to Israel. It is THE day we stood on American soil and claimed this beautiful land we now call the ‘United States of America’ for God! Though Israel had, and continues to have struggles with secularism, they will continue to win as long as they stay on God’s side. I trust our USA will chart the same course. Stand up to the ungodly secularist plans the enemy is attempting to foist on us. Don’t give up-or give in!
We may have some battles ahead of us to retain the privileges our forefathers guaranteed to us in our constitution. I, for one believe the USA is worth the fight! Are you with me? Please let me know in the reply form. Oh, and Blessings on your days as we move into our patriotic season! May I suggest that you ‘stake your claim’ at work, school, or anywhere you go. Wear something to cause people to ask; ‘what does that mean?’ Then tell them about 1607, the day we staked our claim on America-for Jesus!
