Many months ago, I began thinking about an 89th Birthday Party for my mom. Then I began talking about it-then I began planning it! Since I have always been known in my family to be the planner-organizer-boss of any given event, I stepped up. Of course, it also worked because I am the oldest of two children-and I am the girl-and I am retired and had the most time to dabble in the planning!
So, I began with a date, then the venue, next the theme…. easy. She was just 19 when I was born in the 50’s and in her youthful years she enjoyed the music of the days, a dance party with 50’s music sounded perfect! My brother found a Dj, I planned the menu and got the caterer, (Pizza party, of course) my nieces got the Betty Boop cake, and my daughter-in-love made the tags for the favors! It was pulling together perfectly! Well, whatever should we wear? Poodle skirts, of course! Amazon became my go-to for all things 50’s related!
I invited family, including cousins from Maryland and New York. And they came! All the local family came, plus many friends and residents where she lives. The staff where she lives even got involved, decorating and providing the beverages! Thank You Staff! You know who you are and have a special place in my heart!
Well, the Birthday girl loved it! She enjoyed seeing her nephews. nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and of course, her kids! Some photos tell the rest of the story!

It was a wonderfully blessed day of fun, connections, and lots of pizza and cake. But, most important, it was a memory that will live long in our hearts. I’m so glad to have done it, and to have HER to do it for!
