Psalm 118:24 24
The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.
Today I celebrate the day my Mom gave birth to me 70 years ago. I can hardly believe it. As I reflect on my years I believe it gives you an opportunity to reflect on your own years. Let’s think about some of our mile markers.
One of the first things I can recall when my memory had developed enough to remember, is pre-school age Christmas. I do remember my Grandma coming to Connecticut from Pennsylvania for Christmas. She rang ‘reindeer bells’ we had on our door. I still put bells on our doors at Christmas! What do you remember about a happy holiday?
Later in Kindergarten, I enjoyed learning about the Pilgrims and the Indians. Of course we made hats with feathers representing the Indians, and tall black hats with a buckle in front for the Pilgrims. Yes, I do put Indians, pilgrims Indian corn and gourds around the house reminding me of our humble beginnings as a nation. Funny how I re-lived it when my boys went to school, and they did the same thing. What’s your favorite Kindergarten story?
When we moved to Pennsylvania I recall long drives in beautiful tree lined areas that seemed to go on for miles and miles. ‘Penn’s Woods’ my Nana told me. I often went back to school on my birthday, but as long as I had my plaid jumper and new lunch box, I was OK with it. Do you have a favorite school memory you can share?
Of course high school included a lot of drama! But before I knew it, I was walking across the stage in my cap and gown, and having all my friends sign my memory book. We pledged to never loose touch with each other. Most of them I have not seen again! Do you keep in touch with your class mates from school?
Dating, marriage and children ran pell mell and I enjoyed every minute of that ‘express lane’ of my life. Those years added a lot of wisdom, and gray hair to this Mom of two active boys. Memories of all our vacations, holidays, celebrations, births are recorded on film so I can cherish each one whenever I would like to. One particularly poignant memory was our oldest son’s ‘Gold Medal of Achievement’ award ceremony in our church equivalent of ‘Boy Scouts.’ It was truly a proud moment for this Mom! Can you share your ‘proud parent’ moment?
So now, I sit at my computer and write. Oh, I still make memories every day. Every day when the Lord and I chat in prayer I thank Him for all by years of blessings and ask Him to bless so many others that need His help right now. I believe God gives us seasons in our lives to enjoy, to teach, to grow, to teach others. No mater what season you are in, you can be sure of this;
Psalm 139:13-18 13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! 18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand- when I awake, I am still with you.
So, you can see, it is a sweet reflection on the wonders God has granted us over the years, many or few! THANK YOU LORD!
