Using Your Weapons for War!

Psalm 141:1-2

A psalm of David.

I call to you, Lord, come quickly to me;
    hear me when I call to you.
May my prayer be set before you like incense;
    may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

Id like to take another post to unpack our Weapons for War! Yesterday we talked about our two weapons against corona. Today we will look at one of them…PRAYER.

First; When we used to think of prayer-before corona, we may have prayed very general prayers; bless…, strengthen…, heal…. Now I believe we are being called on to weaponize our prayers. What do I mean? Well, when we become united in our efforts, we become powerful against the enemy. That’s who we are warring against, right? In an effort to be a force united, lets first unite our prayers. I like to think of my hand as my visual aid for prayer.

I recommend that you get a small notebook. You will need 6 segments in it, and you will be adding to each segment as the Lord shows you more people you need to pray for, so leave space after each segment.

First, your thumb: These are the people closest to you in the heart. Parents, children, aunts, uncles cousins, and so on. Write each one by name in your notebook. Yes it will take time, but they are worth it.

Next, your pointer finger. These are all the people on the front lines battling that virus every day! Hospital workers, er, ambulance, firefighters, police, pharmacy, grocery, mail carriers, trash haulers, delivery people. You get the picture. All the people who still have to go out and work each day. It may be you! Wouldn’t you like to know people were strategically praying for you?

The effectual and fervent prayer will produce results.

The tallest finger, middle, is the government. From the President all the way down to the dog catcher, they are in the line of fire. They need us to pray for the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of Job, and the mission of Esther. These people get slammed every day and I doubt any one of us would trade places with them right now! Pray for them earnestly.

Your forth finger, the ring finger, runs straight to the heart. Pastors, Priests, Rabbis, Christian counselors, missionaries, lay workers in every aspect of the church, Homeless Missions, Food pantry’s etc. These people try to relieve our suffering with the Truth of the gospel! List as many as you know, by name, as the Holy Spirit reveals them to you.

Lastly, the little finger, but not least…our children. Our hope for the future! Please pay careful attention to these little ones! They don’t have the experience to know that we will be ok! Comfort them, play with them, read to them, and of course, pray for them.

So, you may be saying, Donna, this will take me a long time! Yes, yes it will. Let me remind you that the early church prayed in the Upper Room for 10 days before the ‘Comforter’ came. Can you take an hour to heal this land?

Remember Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane? Matthew 26:40

He expects us do do our part TODAY!

TOMORROW…Weapon of the WORD!
