The Seven C’s of History, Part 2

Matthew 1:21-23

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22All this took place to fulfill what the LORD had said through the prophet: 23“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

Continuing on from yesterday, the 5th ‘c’ is Christ! Now comes the good stuff! Christ is the door we must all go through to have our sins forgiven. You know that God’s perfect creation, all of the amazing and mind blowing things that God made in the seven days of creation, were corrupted by sin, when Adam sinned. How would it ever be restored to some sense of it’s previous magnificence? Well, God had the plan for that! He always knew that one day He would send His son to redeem us. However, until that time came, I wonder if He hoped He would be able to spare His son and we would turn back to God on our own. Yet, He knew that was not going to happen. He did command that a blood sacrifice be given for the sins of the people, therefore a lamb had to be sacrificed in the Temple. This was foreshadowing the shedding of the blood of Jesus, considered the ‘last Adam’, as no other Adam is needed. The blood that was shed by the killing of an animal only covered the sins of the people. Kind of like putting a frosting over a burned cake. It only covers it, bite into it and the burned cake is still there! Jesus Christ was not a covering! He took every sin on Himself when He hung on the cross for us.

The 6th c is the Cross! The cross is an instrument of torture and death! It was a brutal way to die as you would suffocate, not able to lift yourself because of the agonizing pain, to get a breath of air. It was used for the most horrific of prisoners. So why Jesus? He had done no wrong. Followed His father and mother all through His life knowing the end He faced at only 33 years of age. Because God is perfectly Holy, He must punish sin, either the sinner himself, or a substitute to bear God’s wrath! But, because He loves us so much He chose to spare us from that death, and send His own as the sacrifice for us. Imagine, Jesus carried every sin from every person born in the last 2,000 plus years. He carried every sin,but not all believe that He did it for them. These, will die in their sin and go to the place God prepared for the fallen angels to live there forever-HELL. But, the gift God gives to those who receive, accept, and believe in the life, death and resurrection of Christ, is eternal, forever life with Him is heaven. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

The last c is Consummation! In the last book of the Bible, Revelation, we see God is preparing to make a new heaven and a new earth. This is expected to be the consummation of God’s entire plan for mankind. Almost a back to the beginning as this new heaven and earth will have the same attributes as the garden did thousands of years ago. Christ, Consummates, or completed the link when He rose from the dead with the keys to death and hell in His hand! We have no fear of tomorrow, our King reigns forever.
