When in Rome…

Romans 13:1

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

In this nation we have been experiencing a time of unrest over the last year or so.  This is not the first time it happened, nor will it be the last, I am sure.  Yet, I am not really sure what was accomplished.  Many people stole things, many others vandalized, and even more took the time to walk in streets yelling, carrying signs, and generally being a nuisance.  We have the right to peacefully protest in the USA, and I am thankful for that, yet, have we accomplished anything?  We are kind of acting like the proverb, ‘eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth’, so we end up with no eyes and no teeth!  Counterproductive.  This verse has some productive suggestions from the book of Romans written by the apostle Paul, but authored by God Himself. And, Father knows best!

Just give this some thought, God established the rules.  Just because we don’t like them, or agree with them, certainly does not mean we have the right to disregard them.  Same with our government.   Instead, we obey them, then work to change them.  We call that voting. God said to Job when Job questioned the harsh treatment he was receiving;

Job 38:4-5 4“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. 5Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?

Ask yourself the same question and I believe you will humbly return to God with a different prospective.
