Sitting On Your Gifts?

I John 2:20-27

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

Isaiah 10:27

It shall come to pass in that day that the burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yok from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.

This past weekend we hosted this lovely couple at our home while they ministered at two churches in our area. One of them ours! More on that later.

A little background on Jason and Laura. They are from western Pennsylvania and have been in the evangelism ministry for over 11 years. We have known them most of those years, and have been blessed to host them when they come to NEPA to minister in churches nearby.

So, Jason’s message in our church was a teaching on the anointing. Before you dismiss this message, let me tell you that he specifically made it clear that the anointing is for EVERYONE WHO HAS JESUS IN THEIR HEART. It is not just for a chosen few.

The anointing will show up in people as a gift. Anyone have a gift from Holy Spirit? I Corinthians 12 lists; wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, discernment, tongues, and interpretations.

It can also show itself in a talent. Do you have any talents? An ability to do something like pray? help others? sew?

It may be a calling on your life, or an ability you have that has been given to you by God. Colossians 3:12

So, if you answered yes to any, or many of the above questions…you ARE anointed!

Jason implored each one of us to walk in our anointing. With Christ in us, the deposit of the anointing has been activated. Ever put baking soda and vinegar together? One activates the other to fizz and do the work it is intended to do. Same with the anointing within us when Jesus works with us empowering us to do the work He assigned us to do. We are similar to the baking soda. A pretty powerful product by itself, just not as powerful as, when the Holy Spirit (vinegar) combines with us-explosions begin!

We have the Holy Spirit within us already but we often have not made the ‘combination’ happen. As a result, we are ineffective in the job we are trying to accomplish. We are only working in the ‘baking soda’ strength that we have in the natural. We need the unction of Holy Spirit to add the power! In the Greek, Jason taught us, the word ‘unction’ means a salve or ointment. We receive the powerful healing ‘ointment’ of the anointing when we combine our earthly vessel with the Heavenly Power of Holy Spirit!

We need to recognize the anointing within us. A religious spirit will try to disuade you , casting doubt on your anointing. Lies from the enemy, God does not withhold good gifts from His kids, just as we don’t withhold good gifts from ours.

Sometimes that religious spirit sets up a vision of the ‘anointed person’ to look a certain way. Many Biblical people were rejected because they did not fit the mold or vision people have of an anointed person.. Think about John the Baptist, an insect eating wilderness wanderer, David a shepherd boy, Peter a mouthy fisherman. Can you align yourself in their role model?

Only when we operate in the anointing, (baking soda plus vinegar) will we see supernatural results. Many people do not receive the person who has the anointing, because the person does not fit the part according to their standard. Therefore, that person does not receive what they are in need of.

Jason reminded us of a beautiful scene when Stephen was smiling while looking up to Heaven-while he was being stoned! He was anointed! The power of his anointing gave him the strength to look beyond this natural pain, into the supernatural Heavenly home with NO pain.

Think of Philip running alongside a chariot explaining the scriptures to an Ethiopian man. When his work there was done, Philip was moved to his next anointed assignment by being taken to it supernaturally.

In our lives today we often run after the preacher or speaker that we deem to be anointed. STOP IT! Instead, run after the ANOINTED ONE and ask for His anointing. He gives to all men liberally.

So, think about this. Since we are all anointed, have we mixed the power within us with the power of the Holy Spirit to facilitate that anointing? Or, like so many of us, are you sitting on that anointing, making it powerless? Keeping the baking soda away from the vinegar is necessary in our kitchens-until we need tha power they have when combined to do some good work. Think about that!

Jason and Laura are available to share the power of their ministry with your congregation. Give them a call.
