Matthew 5:14-16
14“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Ever hear of the butterfly effect? It is a theory that a butterfly can beat it’s wings in one corner of the globe and halfway around the world, the weather changes. With that one action of the butterfly. I am not sure I believe that completely, but I do believe our very small actions can have a huge impact on the lives of others.
Let’s break down what the verse above says; YOU are the light of the world. Go on. How can that be? We light up the world? Wow, that seems like a huge responsibility! It is! It means that you should always be on you game. Always at your best. Always projecting His light to the world. It does not mean we cannot be real. When we hurt, we show it, but we still behave with the hope of Christ in our demeanor
Let’s look at those little fireflies in the photo. They have a big job to do. That light is for their own protection, that little light keeps their predators away. Wait, what? Yup, that little light keeps predators from coming close and gobbling them up. It hit me like a light bulb going on…we are the light of the world. Our light keeps the enemy of our soul away from us! Light dispels darkness and evil is dispersed! Their ‘bioluminescence’ is the product inside them that keeps their light burning brightly, from their birth. We have Jesus in us, He keeps us healthy, and our light bright. The bioluminescense has been used in many medical procedures and medicines. The light inside the firefly has healing properties.
Though that little firefly does not bite us, or really annoy us in any way, it really speaks loudly and clearly. I am here! The light inside me draws others to me, and it repels those that may harm me. The light I have inside me is beneficial for all mankind.
When I was praying about naming this website, the Lord showed me the amazing power of that one little light to bring hope to your path. I pray that I can always be like a firefly, drawing others to me, and repelling evil from me.
