Our Battle Cry!

Ephesians 6:12
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”.

Please pay close attention! We are at war. Oh, not the kind that is declared and has each side in it’s own uniform as we did in the civil war when this hymn was written. It is a war none the less. It is a spiritual war for the heart and soul of this nation. It is a war that can only be won through spiritual warfare!

When I first began my walk with he Lord in the 1970’s, I read a book that had a powerful impact on me then, and still does. The book was a series by Frank Peretti, the book I reference now is ‘This Present Darkness’. One particular chapter in the book depicted how our prayers actually call out the warring angels to fight the demon forces around us. I remember the description of the angels and demons fighting each other over the top of a car as the demon wanted something bad to happen to the passengers, and the angel was fighting to prevent it. Only when there was more prayer going up to Heaven, did the battle end, and the passengers in the car arrived safely. We do not see all this going on because we live in a limited dimension. But, God and His angels are working in an atmosphere we are not privy to.

Think of a bridge and a tunnel for a minute. I read this recently in a devotional and thought it was a great analogy for this blog. We cross a bridge to cross over a waterway of some sort. We go through a tunnel to avoid a great distance up one side of a mountain and down the other. The bridge is open so our view is not obstructed and we can see where we are headed. Tunnels are enclosed and obstructed! As a result we have a limited perspective on the world outside the tunnel. Yet there is much to learn in a tunnel.

First, we have no idea what is happening above the tunnel. Right now we are in a space in our nation when we just don’t know what is going on! That’s the tunnel, but God, outside the tunnel absolutely knows what is going on. In the war we are fighting right now, He knows! He is working it all out, even when we don’t see it! Our job, as difficult as it is, is to pray and continue to stand for the right! In our tunnel we can only see the car right in front of us. As long as God is the driver of that car, we will be OK.

There is a disconcerting problem in a tunnel. We cannot change lanes. We as American drivers like to change lanes, pass others, go faster. None of that in a tunnel! In the crisis our nation is experiencing, we must not change lanes! It is imperative that we continue to stand strong and pray for what is right. Changing lanes is a dangerous move, and it weakens our move forward. I have often had a ‘trapped’ feeling in a tunnel. You cannot turn around, there is no place to pull over if you need to get off the road. The tunnel is a ‘all in’ commitment. When we made the choice to be in this spiritual battle for our nation, we made the choice to be all in. To turn back would be disastrous for this cause of the fight. It would leave a trail of hurt and confusion behind.

The beauty of the tunnel is the light we see at the end of it! We are getting close to winning the war when we see the light. The light also tells us we have reached the other side! That was our goal-reach back for the side of our nation that looked like it was going to be lost. The moral, Godly side, the side that our great nation was built on.

Dear friends, we are in that tunnel right now in the US! We have no idea what is happening in the spiritual realm. My thought is that the angels and demons are warring with each other over the future of our republic. As we pray and repent (yes Christians need to repent), we are told God hears from Heaven and will heal our land. I see the angel winning. How about you? We are only seeing what is visible to our human eyes, but God sees it all. He sees our broken and contrite hearts, our humble attitudes and our praying spirit. He alone can grant us the grit and fortitude we need to continue to hold the banner up for the right. There will be no white surrender flag amongst these warriors. Our strength comes from the Lord! So, hold on friends. There is a temptation to give in. It’s the easy road, the wide road that leads to damnation. Stay off it. The lights are beginning to shine at the end of this tunnel. The Lord goes before us, behind us and above us. None of the demons weapons compare to what the Lord is capable of doing when He sees His prayer warriors staying in the tunnel and finishing the fight!

Who is with me in the tunnel?

Who’s with me in the Lord’s tunnel?
